In an attempt to acquire combat skills in deserts, the Southern Command of the Army is prepared to launch a massive joint exercise with the IAF and the Indian Navy.

The exercise that has been labelled ‘Sudarshan Shakti’, must start in November to assess interservices workability and will be redesigned to meet constantly changing operatioinal needs.

According to SD Goswani, spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, a peculiar feature of this exercise is the agreement between the Southern Army command and its counterparts in the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

This military exercise occurs after the exercise “Vijaya Bhava” which took place not long ago in the deserts of the Mawa region in Rajasthan. The Defense minister, the Army Chief and other high ranking cadres of the Army, Navy and IAF participated in the exercise.

Troops of the Southern Command have commenced arriving in the desert for their annual training exercises. This training will bring about a major exercise in November–December to certify the operational preparedness of the Southern Army in a Tri–service environment.

The focus of this exercise will be on the intergrated theatre battle concept under the Southern Army Commander Lt Gen A K Singh, with 21 corps in the lead and the backing of all other important elements of the Southern Army. The exercise  will begin with a service of small team actions, moving up successfully in the command chain.
