    Default Intercontinental SLBM for India

Need of A Submarine Launched Intercontinental Ballistic Missile for India ?

A Trident II SLBM for Representational purpose
Long Range SLBM - an Ultimate Deterrent

The Indian Strategic force's as of Now do not Possess an Active SLBM.The K-15 SLBM with a range of Over 800 Km is under Production. With Induction of INS Arihant - the Lone SSBN that India Possess as of now and the K-15 Missile's,India will complete it's Nuclear Triad with Ability of Launching a Nuclear Warhead from Land,Air,Sea.But How Effective will this Triad be ? the K-15 with such a short range will it Contribute to the Triad when it come's to Maintaining deterrent against Arch-Rival China ?

Let Alone China,The K-15 Lack's the punch even when it come's to Pakistan. Thus, the development of K-4 SLBM with a range of 3,500 km and another Rumoured development of A-6 SLBM with a Range of over 6,000 Km.

India is currently Working on 2 more Arihant class SSBN's and will have an Option to build more.Nuclear Submarine's are more safer Basing option for Nuclear Missile's because of it's ability to Move and stay submerged for long duration of time when Compared to land Based Missiles.Another advantage of SLBM's is Difficulty it present to enemy surveillance, detection, and defensive systems. The soon to be tested A-5 ICBM will Cover the distant Chinese Cities If fired from North India. So it doesn't make sense to work on Further development of Long range Land based Missile's rather than Submarine Launched one's.

Along it's Advantage's there are Some Disadvantage's of SLBM.The main Advantage of such Submarine lies in it's ability to hide,But in case a "Boomer" is detected,It's effectiveness in Launching a Missile fade's away until it evades enemy Surveillance system again.Another advantage is to carry out Quieter operation while submerged under Water.

Consider a Situation where a Long range SLBM with over 10,000 Km Range deployed on a Arihant class "Boomer" submerged Somewhere Near African coast in the Indian ocean or Somewhere near South of Indonesia in the Indian ocean can Target Distant Chinese Cities like Shanghai.
To met the goal of an "Ultimate Deterrent Force", the Indian strategic force's need to Possess a "Long Range Intercontinental Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile" with 3-10 MIRV/MARV Warhead's.

Discuss if India should develop an SLBM with Range over 10,000 km on Par with Modern SLBM's like Trident II and Bulava ?

The Akula is an SSN/SSGN , It will be armed with Russian Cruise Missile's

I am talking about Intercontinental SLBM's here !! Trident II,Bulava

America,Russia,China,U.K and France are only Five nation's that Possess SLBM's over range of 8K Km

I don't know how useful ICBMs going to be, a missile launched from a great distance is more likely to be intercepted especially when you look at the missile defense programs worldwide, in fact it is more logical to use IRBMs with MIRV or a Cruise missile . We all like a star wars showdown.

There are many countermeasures available to fool the defense systems,

one basic technique that can be used in Mirv capable BMs is to put many metallic balloons in the warheads. Once in space, both the nuclear warhead and these fake metallic balloons move with same velocity, thus impossible for defense networks to pick the actual warhead.

And given the number of ABMs is limited, the country will soon run out of missiles in case of actual war.
Trespassers will be shot without any warning.

Early warning is not good in any case whether or not interception is possible- it may be possible in the future because technology has come a long way since the days of cold war, it can open up a whole pandora's box. Besides technology, our mind power gives us a warning of an attack whenever there are diplomatic tensions or deteriorating relations.

SLBM of 8K plus will be what completes out triad. Delhi will be pounded with nukes in case of a war. Hopefully the leadership will survive on the newly bought command and control center in the sky planes. I don't think the PMO has a helicopter in front of his lawn. He should have one.

Maybe we will send those helicopters to rescue Madam and family too. Or just as always they will be mobilized hours late like when mumbai was under attack.

So SLBM's will likely be one of the few surviving options in nuclear war. I believe Army commanders are given a sealed instruction when war is suspected on what to do with the nukes. So our best bet on MAD teeth is to have the SLBM with 8k+ range. I am tired of we don't need more than 5k talk. It needs to stop. A strong country is an economic powerhouse.

If China decides to take over Taiwan today, do you think anyone will bat an eyelid other than UN mein hungama and a resolution vetoed by China? So get there and you will be respected. India is what it is today because of our 1998 nuclear tests where we said, we have grown up. Let India be what it is or step aside as we move along on our path independently. The rubicon will be crossed when we have ABV 2 of a 8K+ test. Until then MMS and extended family will think about making more 4g scams.
