Jadavpur University professor arrested for spreading 'anti-Mamata' cartoons

New Delhi: A Jadavpur University professor was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly spreading "anti-Mamata Banerjee" cartoons on the Internet.

Ambikesh Mahapatra, a teacher with the Chemistry Department of the University, was picked up on Thursday night by the police.

Section 66 of the Indian Penal Code was slapped on the professor who was arrested on charges of forwarding "derogatory images" of the West Bengal Chief Minister to nearly 65 recipients and mocking her government policies.

Sources say it is quite an unprecedented incident.The professor will now be produced in the Alipore court.

I never understand this phenomenon that repeats itself everywhere in India. A party comes to power, immediately begins abusing the goodwill and faith of the public and amasses all sorts of wealth. They promptly lose the next election, a new party comes and the cycle repeats itself. Our electorate is so dumb and divided that they allow this to happen. A real pity.
