IAF selects Boeing’s Apache Longbow
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has selected Boeing’s Apache Longbow advanced attack helicopter for its combat helicopter tender.
RIA Novosti news agency announced from Moscow on Tuesday that the other participant, Russia’s Mi 28N Night Hunter, is out of competition. It announced an unnamed Indian defense ministry source as saying that the US helicopter “displayed better performance” while the Russian machine did not measure up to the requirements.
IAF is keen to acquire 22 combat helicopters with no promise to order more. However, it is likely there will be more orders for the machines immediately after the delivery of the the first batch of the helicopters.
Boeing’s Apache Longbow helicopter is a well known successful attack helicopter with tremendous amount of success in the operational missions. Perhaps, Electronic Warfare capability would give it more than of an edge compare to any helicopter.

Definetly a great news... some of them should be used in anti-maoists missions....
The Apache Longbow is packed with the latest sensors and systems to conduct night warfare in total darkness. So far it has had a great deal of success in stand off engagements against tanks, trucks and so on.It has never been used in close range long persistence operations against infantry. Its panoramic windows will make survival of the crew difficult in close combat. That distinction is reserved for only one combat helicopter in the world, the Russian KA-50.This machine is so heavily armoured that it can hover stationary over infantry while leasurely wiping them out and shrugging off all the massed fire directed at it.This quality has been demonstrated time and again in Chechnya.
I don't think Such expensive beast be used in antimaoist role.
Indias LCH will be better suited for that role.
As Apache is a heavy class attack helicopter and We don't Go for open against maoists as they are usually in corners of jungles.
Light powerful jets with heavy armor are need for that purpose and LCH will be bettter for that .
